Founded by legendary architect Moshe Safdie, Safdie Architects is a design studio imbued with a spirit of innovation and idealism, guided by the idea that architecture should be inherently timeless, connected to nature, and profoundly humane.
Operating in the model of a design studio, the practice is research oriented and forward-thinking.
Based in Boston, with offices Jerusalem, Singapore, and Shanghai, Safdie Architects draws upon a depth of experience to deliver some of the world’s largest and most complex commissions in imaginative and unexpected ways.
Notable projects include the landmark Habitat 67, Montreal, CAN (1967), The National Gallery of Canada, Ottowa, CAN (1988), Yad Vashem Holocaust, Israel (2005), Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort, Singapore (2010), Jewel Changi Airport, Singapore ( 2019), Raffles City Chongqing, China (2020), and Centro de Educação e Pesquisa Albert Einstein, São Paulo (2021, under construction).
Awarded and acclaimed for its architecture that highlights collective spaces and with more than twenty branches present in countries like United States, England, Denmark, UAE and Brazil, the architecture office Perkins & Will has in the design and common use of spaces, as well as in diversity and inclusion, the master lines that promote innovation and creativity.
Therefore, most of the works executed by the company are for common and community use, such as Eastern Washington University, Cheney (2018); University of Kansas, Science Building (2018); Damen Green Line Station, Chicago (2020); and Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM), Montreal, Quebec (in design). Although they are more than credentialed to undertake residential and private buildings that also shine in their portfolio.
However, it is this care to create places with meaning that has generated a number of awards in many of the works created by Perkins & Will. The L’ Oréal Pesquisa & Centro de Inovação project, Rio de Janeiro (2018), to name just one, has racked up trophies such as the Unbuilt Design Honor Award, AIA Miami Chapter (2013); Shortlisted for Future Projects WAF (2015); Honor Award for Unbuilt Design, AIA Florida Chapter (2016); Sustainable Infrastructure Grand Prize Green Solutions Awards (2017); Biennale Honor Architecture Award (2018); and Merit Award Architecture Greater, AIA Miami (2018).
Winner of the Pritzker Prize in 1994, the highest honor in architecture, Christian de Portzamparc is part of the select hall of great names in architecture and urbanism worldwide. The French architect also holds another important award: France's most prestigious urban planning prize, The Grand Prix de l'Urbanisme.
Christian de Portzamparc is responsible for numerous outstanding projects such as Nexus, Fukuoka, Japan (1991); LVMH Tower, New York (1991); Philharmonie of Luxembourg, Luxembourg (2005); One57 (2014) and Prism Tower, New York (2016); City of Arts, Rio de Janeiro (2013); Paris la Défense Arena, Paris (2017); and Shangyin Opera House, Shanghai (2019).
