CoronaVac is in the last phase of trials and will be presented to Anvisa in October
The governor of Sao Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), said on Monday, 21, that the entire population of Sao Paulo will be vaccinated against Covid-19 until February 2021.
"To the Brazilians of São Paulo, I guarantee that we will have the vaccine to serve the entire population already at the end of this year and throughout the first two months of 2021. We have to, of course, finish this third phase of testing and we hope that everything goes well," said the governor at a press conference at the Palácio dos Bandeirantes.
On Sunday, Doria had already announced for October the arrival of the first 5 million doses of CoronaVac, ready from China. By the end of 2020, the state is expected to receive a total of 46 million units of the vaccine.
According to IBGE, the state of São Paulo has 44 million inhabitants. The doses, then, would only give to vaccinate once each inhabitant.
Although the governor did not give details of how the vaccination will work, it is possible that the second booster dose will be made with the vaccine already produced and bottled by the Butantã Institute.
The agreement with Chinese laboratory Sinovac provides for the transfer of technology to São Paulo, which will enable 120 million doses of the CoronaVac vaccine to be produced domestically.
Vaccine in final test phase
On the 10th of this month, the state health secretary, infectologist Jean Gorenstein, said that the forecast was to present the studies with CoronaVac to Anvisa in October so that it could be approved for use.
With the approval of Anvisa and regular bodies, the schedule foresees the start of vaccination in December this year.
