Projeto "Alagoas Handmade" exhibits national art in NY
12/5/2022
Pieces by craftsmen and craftswomen from Alagoas are part of the Casa Brasil NY 2022 programme
Brazilian popular art reflects structural characteristics of the formation of national identity, appropriating the fusion of multiple cultural influences and the creativity that pulsates in the great mosaic called Brazil. Fertile ground for culture, the state of Alagoas is home to masters who create universes in various languages, techniques and artistic expressions and, to bring these talents closer to the world, "Alagoas Handmade" is preparing another international stop. This time, projeto lands in New York, adding more Brazilianness to Casa Brasil New York 2022, which takes place from May 11 to 25.
Curated by Marco Aurélio Pulchério (Marco500) and Rodrigo Ambrosio, projeto brings together, in addition to new works, part of the creations that stood out in the exhibition "Alagoas = The Brazilian Artisanal Soul", held during the Miami Art and Design Week, in December 2021. These are works by masters and artisans that perpetuate knowledge that spans generations, at the same time as they imprint their particular visions, revealing instigating views of the world.
From the exuberant coast, through the Zona da Mata and the Agreste, Alagoas will be represented in many of its facets. Participants include masters such as Maria Cícera, Living Heritage of Alagoas, Aberaldo and Irineia, as well as popular artists such as Adriana Siqueira, Boró Sandes and Lucas Lessa (see the full list below).
The works dialogue with the main theme of Casa Brasil New York 2022, which is "Brasil in Natura, terra adentro", curated by Natasha Schlobach. The event is organised by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) and aims to promote Brazilian products with high design, quality, sustainability and innovation, bringing Brazilian entrepreneurs from the Home & Construction sector closer to potential buyers in the USA.
