RS promotes competition to revitalise five historic buildings

The government of Rio Grande do Sul has launched a competition to receive proposals for architectural projects with a view to revitalising historic buildings in the state. Five projects will be selected within the Iconicidades programme in the cities of Pelotas, Rio Grande, Santa Maria, Cachoeirinha and São Leopoldo.

The programme's proposal is to revitalise historic buildings, combining culture, tradition and entrepreneurship in the new use of the properties.

The contest will award the first three winners with R$ 20 thousand, R$ 15 thousand and R$ 10 thousand, respectively. The author of the winning projeto will also be contracted to undertake the executive and complementary projects, in amounts ranging from R$ 580,000 to R$ 749,000.

PELOTAS

Proposal: to transform the former headquarters of the Bank of Brazil into a Senac gastronomy school, without giving up the promotion of tourism and the preservation of the historical heritage.

Proposal: to set up a tourist complex at Molhes da Barra, fostering a creative ecosystem that involves environmental preservation and stimulating the local communities' economy.

SANTA MARIA

Proposal: transform the Railwaymen's Club, a two-storey art deco style building, into an incubator aimed at creative entrepreneurship and coworking.

CACHOEIRINHA

Proposal: to revitalise the area around the Casa de Cultura Cultural Complex, combining a covered street and an Ecotourism plaza in an ecosystem focused on culture, art, education and gastronomy.

SAO LEOPOLD

Proposal: to revitalize the Casa da Feitoria/Imigrante Museum, preparing the space for the celebrations of the 200 years of German immigration to Rio Grande do Sul, in 2024.
