Expo Revestir 2024 bets on sustainable initiative with donations and recycling

Waste management has had a social impact on 7 cooperatives and reduced CO² by 187 tons.

Expo Revestir 2024 implemented a pioneering sustainability action in this edition. projeto Six sorting points were set up from the start of assembly to the end of dismantling, directing waste for reuse or recycling.

In addition to the positive environmental impact of this initiative, Expo Revestir reinforces its commitment to sustainability and social support for local cooperatives and the waste picker community.

The projeto pilot project not only aims to impact the events industry, but also to enable waste to be segregated and disposed of correctly. Ceramics, for example, are transformed into new material for donation and/or recycling.

Through policies aligned with ISO 20.121, waste management has had a social impact on 7 cooperatives and resulted in the reduction of 187 tons of CO².

A total of 970,846 kg of waste was recycled and the management carried out by NürnbergMesse Brasil Sustentável contributed to a reduction in the amount generated by 69 buckets compared to 2023.

In addition to the data on recyclable waste and rejects, Expo Revestir 2024 promoted social actions, such as the donation of 473 pallets to the K Aparas cooperative, which helps collectors transform these materials into furniture and supplies for the community. In addition, ceramics that had been reassessed by environmental agents and were in good/excellent condition were donated.

In addition to the sustainable initiatives promoted by Expo Revestir itself, it is worth noting that the exhibitors have also adopted sustainability as a principle in their participation. Many chose to reuse their stand structures for future editions of the event, helping to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact. This awareness and commitment to more sustainable practices demonstrates an important evolution in the sector, reflecting companies' growing interest in and concern for the environment.

Stand Portobello

Sustainability has always been a concern for Portobello. This year, the brand's stand at Expo Revestir was built on the basis of projeto conscious consumption, using MLC - Glued Laminated Timber, an extremely technological and triply sustainable material. The space was designed by architect Giovani Bonetti and the brand's architecture team.

With MLC it is possible to guarantee the sustainable origin of the structure, as all the wood is certified, resistant and 100% reusable. The structure arrives ready for assembly in the pavilion, which has a positive impact on the health of trade fair workers.

According to architect Giovani Bonetti, MLC is still a technology that is little used in Brazil because it requires skilled labor, which represents a challenge when it comes to assembly. "In terms of sustainability, it's better to have an MLC structure than a metal structure closed with MDF, as is traditionally the case. This structure can be 100% reused, without the need for new factory interventions or construction work," he emphasizes.

The same structure will be reused during Expo Revestir 2025 and the material will later be used to build a community center on a 6,000 square meter plot in the Jardim Progresso district of Tijucas, Santa Catarina, where one of Portobello Grupo's factories is located.

Stand Docol

At Expo Revestir, Docol surprised us by highlighting sustainability on its stand. The structure, 100% reused from the previous year, was entirely made of MLC - Glued Laminated Timber, which not only exemplifies the company's commitment to sustainable innovation, but also demonstrates its ability to reuse materials in a creative and efficient way.

While the previous edition had an obstacle-free boundary and suspended volumes inside, the 2024 stand brought innovative design through the "veil" of metal wires around the entire space, so as to create a tenuous boundary that can be crossed in all directions. It is a direct reference to the transparency and fluidity of a water curtain.

Internally, the spaces explored different possibilities for expressing the key concepts that guide the brand's products: technology and connection with nature. The light plan for the roof concentrates the lighting in the "middle" of the space. Once again, projeto on the Docol stand explores the idea that thinking sustainably can be directly related to the reuse of existing structures and the complete reordering of their spaces within the same structural grid, avoiding waste.
